Challenge: Redesign a local restaurant menu

Focus: Typography

Timeframe: 2 days

Software:

🛠️ Design Process: Since this design challenge was focused on typography I focused on spacing, typographic hierarchy and font "diversity". I added the pictures as extras to bring a little more light into the menu.

Spacing: The spacing on the original menu was tight making the items hard to read. I incorporated even spacing and consistent margins using guides making sure the text was readable.

Typographic hierarchy: On the original menu the font weight for menu items and their descriptions are almost the same. I made sure to incorporate a 2pt. weight difference between items and their descriptions.

Font Variety: There is probably a more official term for this, but there was only font on the original menu. I used the noteworthy font for the section names. I paired this with a more neutral typeface for menu items to further emphasize the difference between each.

Challenge: Random Font Showcase

Focus: Typography

Time Frame: 1 hour (completed in 52 minutes)

Software:

Font: Clash Display

Design Process: I pulled the font description to use in the layout. I wanted create a sense of depth, so I added heavier weight to the text in the back paragraph.

When I saw the name clash display I immediately thought of broken glass, so I made sure to incorporate that in the background.

I added the bubbles to soften the look and add a modern feel to it since I emphasized that it was "the new modern".

For the phrase "Welcome To A New Modern" I wrote that because this font to me felt like a transition from traditional typefaces.

I wanted to go for a more magazine styled cover when it came to this poster. So I made sure to keep everything bold and the visual elements layered to an extent.
